What is a MICR Printer?

MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition and is typically used by the banking industry. MICR Printers have character-recognition technology that is used to help with the processing and clearance of checks and important documents. The encoding, known as the MICR line, is found at the bottom of checks and other receipts. It includes the document type indicator, bank code, bank account number, check number, check amount, and a control indicator.

This technology allows for MICR readers to scan and read the pertinent information directly into a data-collection device. The formulation of toner used to print the specialized font at the bottom of checks.
